Sweet Caroline

Baby Love

Blossoming into motherhood takes time.

As the baby grows, so does a mother's love.

We see this love in hands longing to hold a baby, and patiently outlining her temporary home.

It's a rare time, the months leading up to birth. Looking down, knowing the new shape of your midsection is just a taste of the new shape of your expanding life.

It's lovely.

I don't ordinarily do pregnancy portraits, so it was an honor to capture this blossoming Mom. Thank you Caroline for giving us a glimpse into your new life!

Southern Senior Sonoma Style

Last month, I had the pleasure of shooting a senior portrait session.

My wife's cousin made a special trip up from Southern California to have her senior portraits in the beautiful wine country. Her family also took the opportunity to sip some wine, and to enjoy some local dining. It was a fun and special session as we all enjoyed being together and Sara was a delight to photograph. Why not make a portrait session a family affair, an adventure, a time to let your hair down and of course, smile for the camera?

Portrait of Rose

The art of a great headshot conveys the right attributes to directors, producers, writers and casting directors who may only get a quick look at you to see if you have the the right  look for their project. As an aspiring actress, Rose is always putting her best foot forward. She was ready to update her headshot, and I'm glad we got connected as our conversation quickly developed and we discussed images beyond the headshot. Rose has a great mod look with her pixie hair, so we developed an idea to replicate some shots from the 60's. With the help and fantastic work of Megan on hair and makeup we added, three different looks to our shoot. We went from a fresh look for the headshot all the way through to those amazing eyes you have to see at the end.

Jenna and Cody at Trentadue

On a gorgeous fall Friday evening Jenna and Cody celebrated their commitment to each other. Their stunning location, Trentadue Winery provides so many interesting backdrops and opportunities for photos. Having eloped, this evening was a way to share with friends and family alike.

Their baby daughter Paisley in attendance had no end of admirers, family stepping up to feed hold and play as the couple visited their many guests.  Too young today to remember, but I'm sure as the years roll on she will come to cherish the photos we captured. An emotional father danced, laughed, and cried with his beautiful daughter, fulfilling all the roles of a great Dad.

The cake said it all: The hunt is over. Cody, a keen hunter in the wilderness of California, has found his match in Jenna. Fire pits roared as the evening drew in and it was off for the first dance.  All the ladies showed up to dance with a little bit country and a little rock and roll. Our DJ had them from age 8 to 80, out there strutting their stuff. Jenna was a gorgeous Wine Country Bride and as the fall evening closed in, I was thrilled to have been a part of this celebration.

Cyd and Trey Napa Valley welcome and dinner.

Cyd and Trey celebrated in style with a welcome reception at the Hotel Yountville to start their wedding festivities. Family and friends gathered in the courtyard for a gorgeous Wine Country evening. Everyone enjoyed fantastic local wine and cheese accompanied by one of the best three piece bands I've heard in a long time.

The rehearsal dinner at Merryvale Winery took place in the historic Barrel room, and was spectacular. One long table with Cyd and Trey at the head felt both royal and like a down home affair. Heartfelt and hilarious toasts were given from both sides. Truly one of my favorite parts of any event are the toasts. To hear family and friends tell stories with with genuine love and affection, about the couple from growing up to today is a wonderful thing. This destination wedding was a very special occasion. The couple were natural and easy to be with: I know we captured some memories that will become even more precious over time.

Global Student Embassy

It was my pleasure to photograph a wonderful event Kosta Browne Winery hosted for a visionary local organization, the non-profit: Global Student Embassy. Their mission is to empower young leaders to become environmental stewards, social innovators, and community leaders. GSE envisions a community of energetic young leaders connecting internationally as champions for social responsibility and environmental consciousness. Hearing some of the testimonies from GSE students was truly inspiring. More of their mission and vision can be found here: www.globalstudentembassy.org.

Brie and Neil's exquisite DIY Wedding

Every Bride likes to add her own style, touch and flair to the wedding day. None more so than Brie. With sewn paper decorations, and making all the ladies' bouquets, the mens' boutonnieres on top of putting the finishing touches on her own bouquet, she had a deft hand at much of the decor.  A unique altarpiece made by a friend added a wonderful focal point.

With Brie's DIY style and flair, it was a truly exquisite affair with each and every detail, chic, refined and fabulously elegant.

Brie and Neil married at her sister's home in San Anselmo Ca. Family and friends gathered on the lawn for a touching and joyous ceremony. Surrounded by her Sisters, Brie shone and Neil's face said it all. Love was all around.

From the chef to the minister, friends were everywhere involved. Heartfelt toasts were given and pillow fights ensued; oh the joy of young boys at a wedding. To be fair, a couple of the little girls gave their all.

This surely is what weddings are about:  families coming together, creating and celebrating. I'm sure the wee ones will look back on the photos and laugh with joy at their antics.

What a joy it was to capture the images of all this creativity, joy and most importantly love on Brie and Neil's wedding day.

60 seconds of Love*

Brie and Neil married in San Anselmo on May 24th 2014;  an intimate family affair at her sister's home. There was so much love, laughter and style; here's just one minute. Take a moment to watch and then go love someone.

With Love From The Heartland

Wine Country Weddings offer you the opportunity to mix love and passion. With Joyelle from Kosta Browne winery coordinating the events, Heidi and Kevin were in for a dream destination wedding. Accompanied by their close friends, together they enjoyed private tastings, selected vintages and personal chefs. The bride, groom and friends had a truly memorable time.

Thursday they set off, bringing their passion for great wine to the Lynmar Estate. "The Lynmar Estate offers a unique and an in-depth, privately hosted experience customized to meet your wine education needs. With a selection of six limited release wines, this purely wine-focused experience explores the subtleties of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir and Chardonnay."

Littoria Winery was next for a small family owned winery experience. Littoria Winery produces World Class Chardonnay and Pinot from the Northern California Coast.

The wedding was smooth as silk with one tiny hiccup. A last minute dash for the rings during the ceremony, a good laugh amongst friends and soon enough the bride and groom were married. Then it was on to a superb dinner prepared by Chef Greenwald, owner of Bay Laurel Culinary with Chef Meany by his side. Fresh Bay Shrimp, Roasted Chicken consomme and Griled Fillet with wild mushrooms were just a few of the items for dinner. Everyone enjoyed the barrel room for a private tasting, and an exquisite cake from Patisserie Angelica topped the evening.

Located in the new Barlow center of Sebastopol, the story of Kosta Browne is as fascinating as their wines. Nurturing lasting relationships with growers and the area since 1997, Kosta Browne produces premium Sonoma County wine. Hosting regular events, tasting and dinners, I believe Heidi and Kevin are the first to be married at the Winery and maybe in the Barlow.

Spring Blossoms on the Tree

Capturing the beauty in families is a gift and a pleasure. It's fun to look at family photos and see resemblance in features and even mannerism. Documenting a family together, a couple in love, or simply someone celebrating their beauty is all an honor; as I work to capture those moments of people completely surrendered to the moment and the camera. The dynamic of each family, each occasion, each age, deserves to be documented.  Here in wine country, we are lucky to have the landscape, talent, and the climate for great family portraits. Couples can enjoy an engagement session in the city or the studio. Gorgeous locations host wonderful wine country weddings, intimate engagement shoots, or lovely families enjoying the outdoors. Here in Sonoma County, there is a perfect backdrop to your day. Casual, formal or some where in between, it's time to capture your family now before we're covering the next big thing in their lives. Time flies as we know. The photos we create, these paper memories are so much more than the material they're printed on. Some of the most treasured items I have are old photos of family. It's fun to share photos and watch people make connections as they see traits shared throughout generations. It's one of the best ways to share family connections over many generations.

Springtime is a time of renewed growth, and expanding families. and remembering where your roots are.

Passion, Purpose and Reason

Where shall you seek beauty, and how shall you find her unless she herself be your way and your guide? And how shall you speak of her except she be the weaver of your speech?

Kahlil Gibran ~excerpt from On Beauty

I was excited to shoot Luisa on a new dramatic red backdrop. Red is such a symbolic color with so many associations: from Valentines, passion, and love to the stuff of life like fire trucks, stop lights and so much more. We see incarnations of red everyday.

Luisa is currently studying for her Associates Degree here in Santa Rosa and heading to Seattle Pacific in the fall. An accomplished and honored athlete, she captained the Volley ball team to State finals. A natural leader, she trains relentlessly to maintain her A game.

Sports drive her forward, and "nothing else makes me feel so rich or high on life other than music."

Highlighting the natural beauty in all of our clients I always like to ask what beauty means to each one of them. Luisa says " Accepting and loving yourself is one of the most important things in life. You must love yourself before you can love someone else."

What's not to love about this lady in red?

7 Best Reasons For A Wedding Album

1. They tell a story: We all have unique stories to tell and share. Special times and occasions that define who we are. Your wedding day is one of those times. with families coming together to celebrate your union.

2. They last: The wedding albums we offer are custom made by hand here in the USA. Digital files come with most of our packages but, holding the album and going through the pages….it's incomparable.

3. They are tangible: Having something real to hold after your wedding day, besides your spouse is unparalleled.  Memories give our life our meaning, yet they fade over time. Let the photos transport you back  each time you look. All the planning you went into: the details, the flowers and the dress, all exquisitely captured from the glow of your day.

4. They are traditional: With more and more customizable options available, they allow you to hold with tradition and blaze your own trail. Wedding albums are old and new again. Your collection of images tells the story of your day. Wrapped in linen or Italian leather, albums can speak of contemporary elegance.

5. They are collectible: Wedding albums become part of your family heritage and legacy. Just as images become more valuable over time, so does your album as each new generation sees it afresh.

6. They are customizable: As I mentioned, there are so many ways to tell your story. Options including covers, colors and more, all to tell your story your way. Beyond a bridal wedding album, keepsake albums can be created for parents as well.

7. You'll be glad you did.
